What is Taxi Project?
Taxi Project is an awareness raising campaign that aims to:
> build taxi driver pride
> build public perception regarding the positive contribution Victorian taxi drivers make to society
> raise funds for Very Special Kids – a charity improving the quality of life for families of children with life-threatening illnesses. www.vsk.org.au.

What will Taxi Project create?
Taxi Project culminates in a 130 page full colour book – out now – entitled Taxi, The Inside Story and an exhibition showing at Federation Square (The Atrium) from Sat 6 March – Sat 13 March 2010.

Taxi, The Inside Story (the book) tells the stories of over 55 Victorian taxi drivers in words and images (RRP $19.95, ISBN: 978 0 646 51563). 

Taxi, The Inside Story (the exhibition) is a photographic exhibition due that showcases 50 photographs taken by four Melbourne-based photographers. These photographers took photos from across Victoria of metro and regional drivers, male and female.

Who created Taxi Project?
Taxi Project was created by Rachael Guthridge of Monument Marketing (www.monumentmarketing.com.au) who decided in July 2008 that taxi driver stories should be shared for all to enjoy.  She engaged fifty volunteers to help create Taxi, The Inside Story. Volunteers wrote stories, edited stories, took photographs, edited film footage and developed online campaigns. 

Why Taxi Project? Why now?
Rachael Guthridge hailed a taxi in July 2008. She found herself chatting to a driver and he told her about his life. ‘He said his life was great. I asked whether anything particularly good had happened. He said “No, my life is great because that is my choice.” I was moved by who this taxi driver was and what he must go through. I realised that not many passengers actually know what drivers must endure behind the wheel. I made up my mind there and then to create Taxi Project, to let everyone see what I was seeing,’ says Rachael.

How did Taxi Project happen?
